Still up to stuff

Hello again! If anyone is still watching this space.... or ever was.

I've been working on a couple of new stories again, have no access to them though, also made a traffic cone in blender3D... Been a slow few months.

New story forecoming: story of Yighna. New story written: Underdogs part one.

Hey, long time no see! I've been busy doing some writing and here is the end resualt, a whole new story for anyone who ever reads my blog and and an excerpt from another story I'm working on that's not really got a title yet so it's Yighna's story. First, The underdogs.
(Hint: Type pizza for Yighna's story first.)

Underdogs

Episode one: The meeting

By Thomas Walsh

Richard kept his canine ears perked as he tread through the dark forest carefully, the dog was without his good friend Edward and without his skills in herbalism a wound gone bad would be deadly before he had a chance to get back home to Athronal.

The sound of a stick breaking very close drew the hounds eyes to meet yellow orbs peering back at him through the darkness of night, startled he backed up and tripped over something as a long tail whipped the ground in front of him leaving only a little imprint in the dirt.

"What was that?!" Richard exclaimed out loud before something shoved his foot-paws and got up, a black figure in the darkness.

"You clumsy mutt!" a young woman's irate voice yelled in anger as the black figure twirled around to show a long pointy muzzle covered in rusty red fur while glowing cat-like eyes glared at the bewildered hound; he'd just trodden over a fox!

"I'm sorry! Something startled me and..." Richard sniffed the air curiously, he could smell blood and it quickly dragged his attention away. "Are you bleeding?" the dog asked with a worried sigh while looking over the fox vixen's form for any darker red he could pick out however the low light made it hard for him to see her colour at all.

"It's just a cut on my leg and why are you worried anyway? You stepped all over me!" the vixen yelled in a mad rage; taking paces towards Richard.

"Where are you when I need you Edward?" He asked thin air quickly as the fox advanced on him. "I didn't see you!" the dog exclaimed as an unexpectedly powerful paw grabbed the front of his plate armour and brought him close for a toothy growl that faded into very heavy breathing. A few silent seconds passed with nothing but the vixen's breathing to break the still; Richard didn't dare breath himself. Then something happened and it wasn't good; the vixen collapsed into his arms.

Giving her a shake did no good so Richard decided on the spot he'd carry her back to a horse settlement he'd seen and look for a healer; they were far from happy to have predators around however and it would be a very long night for the dog. "Why do I always get the short end of the stick..." Richard sighed as he set off on the trail back.

Arriving at the horse settlement early next day Richard was exhausted and soaked from sudden rain in the night which left him ready to collapse himself as he made his way past the many caravans the horses owned, most were asleep at this hour but some sat lazily on boxes or drinking ale while on watch for predators, mostly the barbaric wolves or the occasional mad big-cat who was out of their mind.

The settlement was a a large open plain of grassland that had several caravans the horses pulled themselves dotted about, ready to leave on a moments notice if the gentle giants accidentally intruded or saw danger. They didn't follow the dog kingdom and they refused strike an alliance with the feline republic as well; preferring to be completely indifferent and neutral.

Making his way over to a trailer with a large red plus painted on the dog gave the door a hard kick with a foot-paw, unable to move his arms lest he drop the vixen where he stood. A sound came from inside as the occupier scrambled to answer; an old horse with a greying mane yanked the door open and looked at the sorry sight of the much smaller dog and the vixen he held.

"Come inside, you both look half-dead." his old voice mumbled.

Inside the caravan bottles were stacked high in boxed shelves so they didn't have to be packed away when moving. A worn bed sat in the corner taking up most of the room while a tattered old rug covered much of the floor. "Set the vixen down on the bed so I can have a look at her." the old horse commanded; Richard did as he was told.

Placing her sleeping form on the comfy looking bed Richard longed to lay down and sleep himself, even if he would have had to share a bed; these thoughts were quickly drawn away as a string hand tugged on Richard's plate armour "You look tired so I'll take care of your friend while you have a nap?" the old horse offered, nodding to a worn but comfy and oversized chair. The dog thanked him and pulled off his uncomfortable armour to nap in the simple clothes he had on underneath.

Mary felt her head throbbing as she regained consciousness, the vixen tried to bolt upright but strong hands held her down while something cool and soothing was applied to the gash on her leg. "You don't know the dog do you?" An old voice questioned however Mary couldn't open her eyes to see who it belonged to. "No? Regardless he has done a smart thing by bringing you here, if he'd tried to make a dash for help in Athronal he'd have come back to find you dead, and if he'd tried to carry you then he'd have collapsed himself and you'd have fallen prey to some wolves in the area."

The hands stopped what they were doing and allowed the vixen up; it took her a few moments to open her eyes though. Seeing a horse she felt surprised and also relived since the horse clans were not fighters. Sitting in the corner a young and very soaked dog was asleep on the old horse's chair, he looked too young to be an adventurer and but he was old enough to be a squire. His matted black and white fur led the vixen to guess he was a collie which made little sense since the collies were farmers and not fighters.

The horse touched her shoulder, "You should rest as well, he carried you here through the rain all night non-stop so you could be treated. I've never seen such effort for a stranger but then again I think there are rumours about this dog floating about, I'll have to ask later and in the meantime you can rest up and make sure his effort wasn't wasted.". With a nod the vixen agreed and fell back onto the bed; she was asleep in seconds.

The morning was still bleak next day as the two readied up for the trip north to Athronal, they'd packed whatever they had left when the old horse healer approached them shortly before they reached the settlement's limits. "You two!" His kind old voice called out, stopping the two in their tracks. "Before you leave the people of this clan have a message for you to deliver once in Athroanl."

Richard looked at the puzzled vixen, the road and then back to the horse with a nod. "Please tell the king that we're going on the move again, we're being paid a small price by farmers to move so the land we have eaten to grass can be cultivated, naturally we don't mind and will be passing through the city in one week so the roads will need to be emptied for our hopefully quick passing through."

The dog was given a note just in case and then the two were allowed on their way through the rain after they finished giving some more thanks to the old horse. The beaten path was muddy and no roads were nearby which meant Richard was left with cold paws since he only had bracers on his ankles rather than the 'angled' boots most morphs wore, the horses had no need for anything thanks to their hooves.

"It was the boiling midpoint of summer yesterday, why is it suddenly as cold as the dead of winter?" Richard asked while not really expecting an answer back.

"Better question," the vixen started. "Why did you go out of your way to help me? I'm nothing but a... lost stranger." Her tone suggested something else but Richard didn't intrude and just gave a honest answer.

"Well, I guess because it felt wrong to leave you there with all the wolves hanging around and the knight I work under, Gabriel, would have my head if I dared leave an innocent person to die."

She smiled and turned away as nothing else was said until nightfall, when the rain finally let up enough that Richard could try to light a fire in the fog that had replaced it. Gathering firewood in the forest was no problem but after a half hour it still refused to light.

"This is hopeless!" the annoyed dog yelled, throwing his tinderbox to the ground. "Everything is soaked through and won't light!"

At that moment there was an odd, loud squeak and a ball of fire came out of the fog, the two of them froze expecting a monster to run at them but after a moment a tabby cat stumbled into the small camp while seemingly impervious to the dying flames.

"Edward!" Richard yelled, bolting to grab his friend in a tight hug. "Where have you been?!" It took a few moments for Edward to remove his enthusiastic friend; dogs were too friendly sometimes. "Well you hadn't shown up in two weeks so I master Oswald sent me to find you, he said his teleportation spells worked and they do!.. but my ability to create a dry web to keep any more rain off isn't too good since nothing happened."

Mary blinked and coughed while pointing to the lit fire. "You're not very good at magic are you?" she asked to which the feline started rubbing the back of his neck, "Well... yea, I'm only a novice and magic is hard but I'm getting there." he explained nervously; the tabby was often ridiculed for his poor magic.

"You can't ever get the right spell, are you sure you've even started?" Richard mocked jokingly, getting a glare from his friend before they settled down near the fire where the vixen introduced herself as Mary and claiming to be an out of stock merchant who was robbed by wolves. Richard tried to explain she could get compensated by the king but was cut off when Mary claimed to be independent rather than from a trading guild.

"It's a pity then" Richard mumbled, "You might be able to ask for aid but you'd probably be better off trying to join one of the guilds, they always need more people to help with the caravans and even I doubt they can turn down workers at the moment."

Mary only gave a nod to Richard before a loud pop grabbed the attention of both. Edward had brought an enchanted tent along which he had set it up and it being the magical thing it was the small tent which looked like it was probably not big enough for more than one person was able to easily fit the three of them which it soon did.

Richard seemed amazed "Edward why have I never been told of this wonderful tent?" the collie asked while taking a good look around. It was just a tent made from (presumably enchanted) cloth and sticks on the outside while inside it was big enough to contain a small study, presumably it's use was a home away from home for Edward's mentor Oswald.

The tent had been emptied for the trip prior and now contained a couple of bedrolls and some extra supplies as well as firewood and a tinderbox for lighting it. Mary was quick to grab one of the bedrolls and notify the two she was going to sleep, Richard led his own down as Edward left while mentioning something about cooking a small supper outside.

Breathing in the damp air the dog found it hard to sleep since not only had he forgotten what it was he'd been sent to find it would also not coming back with them and seeing Gabrial tomorrow would be the least of his problems as he needed to make sure Mary wasn't left on the streets, it wouldn't be right to leave her like that.

Time passed and Edward retuned to sleep leaving Richard alone, he needed strength tomorrow so it was best to forget about his troubles for now and get some sleep.

Well wasn't that a nice read? Right? Who cares, I have pizza! Here's Yighna's excerpt.

Throwing himself into a chair to wait Yighna started to mope, he so much wanted an end to his little problem and to being little but when your cells replicate perfectly rather than the usual imperfect way that allowed development it seemed unlikely.

Furry arms that had the same blue-grey fur as Yighna made him jump as he was pulled into a warm hug. “You should probably know, Yighna, that I've caught you washing you're bedsheets all month... I think it's time for another trip to the doctors.” the feline's mother, Veon, said, making sure to give him an extra tight cuddle he wouldn't be running from.

Interestingly enough Yighna's kind were short and bulky until they hit puberty, at which point they grew slimmer and beautiful, something they were well know for across the galaxy. Because of a freak radiation spill stopping the cat from ageing it meant he was stuck short and cute and bulky but at least he could still be picked up, something the cat secretly enjoyed as it made him feel safe.

“It's...” he paused, not wanting to confess he was wetting the bed over dreams, it was that or a doctor's visit though of which he'd had far too many, “I've been having bad dreams.” Yighna mumbled, hiding his face in shame while a paw moved to stroke around the back and side of his head.

That's it for this post. I'll make some new polls as well.

No activity to report

Hello readers, just checking in with still no interesting news, life has been a little slow lately and I've not been in the mood for writing, drawing or modelling for some time. I have however been looking at voxel modelling which seems to be very interesting. More updates to come!

Something new (Finally!)

This has been dead for a long since I've not been working on anything besides DA's chapter two and three (which I'm not posting here for privet reasons) and also because the very awesome Lukisod (from RolePlayGateWay) bought be COD:black-ops for a so far undisclosed reason.

In any case here is a story I'm working on to accompany a Roleplay on RPGW.Hope you guys like it and remember 2 things. 1) blgoger hates formatting of any kind and 2) this story is incomplete, this is only the first 3 pages copied and pasted from open office.

If you have decent to good writing skills why not join in the fun on the official roleplay? (why official? because everything is official with me)

31'st centurey fantasy things (pages 1-3)
By Thomas Walsh

The cold night air stung my nose as I walked out the space port onto snow covered slabs, The atmosphere generator was creating a false winter. for weeks I'd been waiting to get on a shuttle and meet Istinu, the elf who was offering me a room to rent on the new planet. It had been a rough trip since being a dragon the humans thought best to just shove me into a cage and label it as 'precious cargo' rather than thinking of anything smart but then again with the cobbled rights dragons had you couldn't expect anything halfway decent to be done for you.

He'd heard that you couldn't just fly anywhere on this planet, it made some sense as you didn't want to accidentally hit the surface bubble that kept the active atmosphere around the colony intact but at the same time you'd have to be blind or stupid to fly out that far. I decided to ignore the rules for tonight and just claim I was uniformed, spreading my wings I took to the skies.

It was colder up there than below but the cool wind in my face was refreshing after being stuck in a cage for half a day, I didn't have to worry about actual luggage much since everything I owned was in a couple side-packs that I could reach at any time, even when flying. Checking a map I quickly found my new home on street 222. I'd never been very good at the touch down and snow was sent flying after I barely managed to stay standing.

Trudging through the oddly thick snow I knocked on the door of house 16, humans weren't being as big on names as they had been on Terra but it was probably because the project to colonise the planet was still in the early stages. I waited for a few minutes but no one came and I was getting cold. I knocked on the door again with a scaly red paw as I began to shiver, it felt like things were getting colder.

The door finally opened and an elven woman began yelling about the time until she noticed what was at her door, she was probably not expecting to be stood face to face with a dragon. After explaining who I was she invited me inside while muttering about how small I was, the human's breeding programs involving dragons aimed to make us smaller and we had no place to complain since they had been giving us food and shelter after the magic seal collapsed.

The years following the collapse of the magic seal, an ancient artefact that allowed us to make use of mana were strewn with calamity, as humans had chosen technology they were fine but the elves no longer had their magic and were forced under a human rule and the dwarves who's war machines were also magical in nature stopped working, they were also forced into the human empire.

Dragons however had remained hidden for years and watched as the human's empire developed, it was when our numbers had dwindled to a shocking level we finally accepted we'd have to join the humans and gave ourselves up, the humans classed us as lowly beasts still but decided to save the individual breeds of dragons by using breeding projects, they were devious however and changed us for their own use, making dragons smaller and less deadly until we were as tall as the average person when sat and about as deadly as any other animal they knew of which was to say, not very.

It was only when news was leaked they planned to 'domesticate' us into pets that things changed, there was a small, short war between dragon and human where we got beaten into submission by the powerful technology the humans had. They decided we were simply too violent to be pets and after an agreement was reached they made laws to protect dragons before releasing us into their new empire on the new planet.

I shook my body as I followed the elf into her home through a small hallway, it was much warmer than outside and a warm fire was blazing away in the corner of the combined kitchen and living room. “Hey, you can collapse... well anywhere you'll fit, if you want” Istinu said probably being able to tell how tired I was.

I was very tired as well, I hadn't slept the previous night and the whole flight hoping I'd be able to sleep easier. “Your room's the first on the right” the elf said, handing me a digital key and pointing to a door in the hallway that lead into the house. Getting through the door was no problem since a dragon's front paws were as dexterous as any humanoid hand but the small room had a dresser, desk and a rather flimsy looking wooden bed with a window above it.

It didn't take Istinu long to guess the problem and she began apologising for the lack of space in my room. I eventually managed to convince her it didn't matter to a dragon by lying that I'd be able sleep on the floor and and still be well rested. She went to bed herself and I tried to stretch out on a rug so I could have my wings out but I really didn't have the space so I chose to curl up on the sofa instead.

A clock on the wall ticked by silently as sleep refused to come to me, I shifted every few minutes trying to get comfortable but it was futile, I finally gave up and decided to go for a walk when the clock had hit 5:30. locking the door was easy with the key that Istinu gave to me as it turned out to work for the whole house.

I could see a shop nearby and checking the map to see what it was got met with confusion as it wasn't actually listed anywhere on the key. With nothing else to do I decided to check it out, walking aroud the street corner gave me a good enough view to see it was a shop called 'd-stop: dragon supplies', seemed like the perfect place to go.

The shop was filled with the only thing most dragons ate and other supplies like food bowls and bedding, it even had toys for whelps so it was a pretty complete place. There was a dragon with very dark, shiny, purple scales asleep by a counter, I decided to let them have a few more minutes of sleep and browsed the shop in silence. Eventually I stopped and looked at the many tins of 'dragon chow' and attempted to decide whether I should pick a certain flavour or just buy them in the prettiest colours since they all had no actual taste to them.

“Looking for something newblood?“ A female's voiced queried while thoroughly shocking me in the process. “Uh... just thinking what flavour I'll get, not that it matters” I stuttered while speaking not because the female had, frankly the most beautiful scales I'd ever seen but because she'd called me a newblood. New blood dragons were dragons that were older than whelps but still very inexperienced in most things. Even if you were smart though you remained a newblood if you were under 2 and a half dragon years.

For some reason or another we dragons had made a hobby of comparing human and dragon years accurately, At present it was decided there was about a decade to a dragon year which kind of worked since dragons reached adult-hood by about 1 and a half dragon years. I disliked the system however as I was exactly 2 dragon years and therefore a newblood.

“I'm Tal... I guess you have a name to share too right?” The dragoness asked rather bluntly. For a second I thought of keeping quite but I still had to buy some stuff and it seemed a good idea to stay in the shop keepers good graces “My name is Kame, I got here hours ago so please can I just buy some stuff and get home” I disliked begging and thankfully Tal didn't hold the act against me.

“You're on a government budget I take it?” she asked as she grabbed a few things from around the shop and put them on the counter. “Yes, I need a quick check-up and then I'm going to try and get a job tomorrow but you know how it is for dragons” I replied as I watched Tal grab more stuff.

“Well... good luck I guess but I'll let you know there's nothing around here for dragons to do, not sure if it's a newsflash but the humans only want to keep us safe to make themselves look good” while Tal explained I looked over what she'd grabbed. There was a few tins of dragon chow; a new bowl; some bedding; something called 'scale shine' and an odd, pink coloured ball.

I gave Tal a funny look for a few seconds which prompted her to explain “well it's no secret you're a tail biter, if your new you must have come by shuttle and that would drive any dragon mad”. I had nothing to say in reply because she was correct, it had been a horrible flight and my tail was missing a few scales now but I'd have preferred it if she'd asked me first.

“Thanks for the concern but I really don't need this” I announced bluntly as I tried to grab I and take it back, Tal was quicker than me though and threw it through a scanner. I tried to find words but gave up however when she seemed to pay for it out of her own pocket.
“Just give it a chew, and don't swallow it” She instructed, throwing the now unpackaged ball at me.

It was probably instinct that let me catch It the first time and when I did it astonished me, something in the ball mixed with my saliva and turned it into a strawberry flavoured solution. Needless to say I wasn't complaining and it left me only able to say “Wow...” for a few seconds.

I paid for my things and Tal offered to help move the bulky bedding home for me since a weeks worth of dragon food was heavy enough as it was and also because she apparently had to close the shop for a few hours until her father came to take over for the day shift. I was mostly quiet on the way back whilst Tal tried to clue me in on local gossip about people I didn't know and things I didn't care about, I was feeling very tired again.

After getting the bedding off Tal and putting the food away for later I saw her to the door, thanked her and watched her leave. Checking the clock I realised it was now 6 In the morning. Deciding to make the most of the last few hours I had I moved istinu's sofa to make room for the bedding, which I threw into a big, tangled heap which I practically dove into. Grabbing the included pillow I rubbed my head against it and eventually found sleep.

Don't forget to comment on the story for a chance to select next weeks user poll (replacing the serious poll)

A dragon comic

Worked on this over the weekend to say sorry for not posting a story, and the fact I'll forget to post tomorrow when I wake up.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Wednesday, 26 January 2011

Where have I been? What have I done? why haven't I posted that promised poll story yet?

The answer is I've been on a foundation learning course, I've been trying different things and the poll story isn't coming. Sorry but I got some sort of 'glee high' from finishing a story chapter and thought I'd be able to do that.

In any case I've got a project in the works alongside Dragon adventure. This story involves a poor cat morph and her son, from the perspective of the son who is bullied regularly. I know how that stuff feels but I never really had anyone to talk to besides friends, and if I wanted a hug forget it, I'm prudish and unsure how it happened.

The basic elements are secondary school, love, family and hardship, there's trouble brewing for the kitties though as a law will soon be passed that states all single mothers must have a supportive mate lest their children be re-homed into wealthier families.

Did I forget to mention a virus devastated fertility rates?

Leave a comment with questions and thoughts if you like, I'll try to have something to post by next Monday but it's not a grantee I'm afraid.
